With the signing of an agreement for gas turbine use Aqualectra has reinforcement for energy supply during heat period
Willemstad — On September 12, Aqualectra signed an agreement with Refineria Global Oil Management Group for the use of gas turbines owned by Refineria di Kòrsou. Using these gas turbines is crucial for Aqualectra to help strengthen our capacity during the hottest months. The signed agreement runs until December 2024.
For Aqualectra it is important that any solution we present, does not become an additional cost for our customers. Therefore, Aqualectra is very grateful for the intervention of the Regulatory Authority of Curaçao (RAC) and the Government of Curaçao, at a time when the two parties could not find each other, so that today we have an agreement that works for all parties.
Although energy produced with gas turbines is normally more expensive, this agreement ensures that Aqualectra can have su]icient energy production capacity at a reasonable price. More importantly, the agreement helps cover rising demands, especially during the warmer months ahead, when energy needs will be higher.
From now on, negotiations with Global will continue, to create solutions for after 2024. With this, too, Aqualectra continues to work on its commitment to an a]ordable, reliable and sustainable future. Before the end of 2024, our wind farm in Koraal Tabak will be operational and by the end of 2025 we will have a new power plant.
Aqualectra expresses its gratitude to the Government of Curaçao and RAC for their valuable support and intervention during the negotiations, and looks forward to continuing a constructive working relationship with Global Oil Management Group.
