Willemstad - All preparations have been made, and everything is ready to start transporting the new wind turbines to their final destination at Koraal Tabak. As planned, the transportation of the first parts will begin this Tuesday, August 6, departing from the Amstel site at Nieuwe Haven to the new wind turbine plant at Koraal Tabak. NuCapital and Ter Linden are in charge of ensuring that this transportation proceeds as safely and smoothly as possible. Based on recommendations from Public Works, the transport will take place outside of peak traffic hours. During the week, the wind turbines will be transported between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, and between 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM. During the weekend the blades are transported, with a different schedule. On Saturday, transportation will take place between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, while on Sunday, transportation will take place both in the morning from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM and in the afternoon from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The police will be present throughout the transport to guide the traffic.
Last Saturday, August 3, a complete route test was conducted with the transport trucks. This test served to check whether all the changes and adjustments made on our roads truly facilitate the transportation of the wind turbines as planned and ensure the safety of those using the roads during the transport. For instance, those traveling on these routes may have noticed in the past weeks the removal of trees and poles that caused obstructions, the raising of cables by Aqualectra, FLOW, and Digicel where necessary, and the temporary removal of guardrails at certain points along the route.
After Saturday's test, a few additional small adjustments were made, such as removing poles that still posed obstructions. All remaining adjustments made along the transport route were found to be satisfactory during last Saturday's test, signifying a green light for transporting the wind turbines to their final destination.
On Tuesday morning, the first parts of the wind turbines will be on our roads heading to Koraal Tabak, and as previously shared, it will take approximately one month for the entire transport to be completed. By Thursday, August 29, at the latest, the transport work should be complete, and work will begin to restore the changes made on our public roads.
We urge the community to drive cautiously in the areas between Nieuwe Haven, Schottegatweg South to East, Sta. Rosa Weg, and Kaminda Hensley Meulens (Weg naar Sta. Catharina) during the upcoming period. Aqualectra, NuCapital, Vestas, and Ter Linden sincerely thank the community for their understanding and patience during this process. The realization of this project helps create a sustainable future for the benefit of every citizen of our beloved Curaçao.
